Set in Japan, India, and northern California, Light in the Himalayas tells the quixotic story of one man's quest to install solar technology in a remote school in one of the most remote locations on the planet.

The Filmmakers

Yaque Silva-Doyle
Director/Producer

Yaque's background is in commercial and narrative film production. He has worked on large scale projects ranging from music videos, national commercials, and short films. His clients include Coca Cola, and Time Warner. This is his first feature film and he hopes that it doesn't completely destroy him.

Issara Willenskomer
Director of photography/Producer

Issara totally got suckered into this film. Now he has 4 people working in shifts in his small 1 bedroom apartment. He gets no privacy, and hasn't had time to read a good book for at least several months. Nonetheless, he has totally come around, and now believes this film is going to be totally sweet. Anyway, his background is in design, photography, and motion graphics, and his clients include HBO, MTV, Microsoft, ESPN, Target, XBox, etc. He really likes being behind the camera, and long walks on the beach.

Jennifer Scarlata
Director of photography

Joe Shapiro
Editor

Joe Shapiro is a self-described recovering computer geek. After a successful career in software (he was one of the developers of Vermeer's FrontPage which was acquired by Microsoft in 1996), he returned to one of his earlier passions - acting. Some years later at the end of an indie film shoot, he found himself wondering what was going to happen to all that footage! So he got himself a "plum logging position" and caught the editing bug. During his eight years in post-production Joe has edited five independent features. Of those, four have won awards, three won top honors, two were in competition at Sundance, and one (Zoo) was in Directors' Fortnight at Cannes. His editing has been praised by Scott Foundas of Variety and both James Greenberg and Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter. Like all good editors, Joe has a passion for story. Unlike most, he loves being on set. He has directed several award-winning shorts and is actively seeking a story or screenwriter to pen his first feature. Charlie Kaufman, Zach Helm, are your ears burning?

Feature Films:

Tall As Trees (2007)
Borrowing Time (2006)

Ryan Claypool
First Assistant Editor

Ryan is a filmmaker/freelance editor/gun for hire from Illinois. After meeting Yaque in San Fransisco and hearing about Light in The Himalayas, decided that when back in Illinois he would quit his job, drive out to Seattle and help finish the film. Ryan’Äôs background is in short film production, music video and commercial production as well. His commercial work has been seen nationwide on ESPN and his short film’Äôs have been seen in the Milwaukee International Film Festival, New Vision Cinema Series in New York and CommFFest Global Community Film Festival in Ontario to name a few. This is his first feature length film and he loves every minute of it. Especially when we eat’ĶThan Brothers Pho’Ķ

Madeline Reddington
Assistant Editor

Contrary to her personal experience on the project, Madeline has, for better or worse, become the living backbone of the entire  film. Not only was she a beacon of light in times of utter darkness, but her youthful resplendance and untimely vigor left the rest of her team aspiring to her ceaseless optimism and unfortunate candor.
